An initial study on Dr. Blass's work was conducted by leading Alzheimer's researcher Dr. Mary Sano. The aim of the study was to evaluate the safety, tolerability, and efficacy of an oral preparation of RGM in slowing the progression of Alzheimer's disease. The results were promising and called for further study.

Dr. Blass dedicated his career to finding ways to combat age-related diseases of the brain. In order to get there, much more research needs to be done to carry forth the early stages that were begun before Dr. Blass's retirement. One obstacle is the reality that to date, decades of research and billions of dollars spent to test treatments for Alzheimer's have come up completely empty-handed, notwithstanding FDA approval for a recent compound that was subsequently controverted by a number of scientists involved in its testing.
However Dr. Blass's approach is radically different to the numerous treatments that have tried and failed. Almost all Alzheimer's treatments target the amyloid plaques on the brain tissue that are a signature specific to Alzheimer's. Dr. Blass has believed for many years that the amyloid plaques are the debris of the malfunctions of the disease, and not the cause. Slowly the scientific community is coming to see the wisdom in Dr. Blass's insight. The RGM treatment is not concerned with the amyloid plaques per se, but targets the root cause that Dr. Blass sees in the pathology of aging cells that lead to Alzheimer's and other age-related brain diseases, and which is, equally, the cause of aging skin cells, a slowing metabolic rate.
IDEO wants to drive forth this hopeful and promising insight against the ravages of age-related diseases of the brain. Dr. Blass's network is available to conduct more studies on his work and we are actively seeking funding and partners to make this new line of research a reality.
